Restaurants and Cafes

Loud dining rooms are one of the top complaints people have about eating out. Acoustic panels that take the edge off the noise and still look good on the wall.

Why restaurants get so loud

Hard floors, big windows, bare walls, high ceilings, open kitchens. Restaurants are built from surfaces that bounce sound, and every table raises its voice to be heard over the next one. Before long the whole room is shouting.

Acoustic panels soak up some of that bounce. Guests can talk at a normal volume, staff can hear orders, and people stay for dessert instead of leaving with a headache.

Panels that suit a dining room

Our business panels come in calm, simple designs (wood slat looks, terrazzo, linen and soft patterns) that sit nicely in most dining rooms. Buy a pack and run them along the longest wall, or spread them around the room.

If you want something with more personality, our Kitchen and Dining art (bread, olives, copper pots, spice bowls) was made with restaurants in mind.

Where to put them

Start with the big bare walls and the wall behind the busiest tables. Panels spread around the room work better than one big cluster. Bars and open kitchens are the loudest spots, so give them some attention too.

Good places to start

If you're not sure where to begin, these are popular picks for this kind of space: Bistro Cutlery, Coffee House, Fresh Herb Garden and Quiet Arcs Repeat. Each one comes as a single panel or in packs of 4, 8 or 12, so you can do one wall or the whole room.

Questions people ask

Will acoustic panels soundproof the room?

No. Acoustic panels absorb sound inside the room, so there's less echo and it's easier to talk and hear. They won't stop noise going through walls, floors or doors to the space next door. That takes building work.

How many panels do I need?

It depends on the size of the room and how hard the surfaces are. A good start is a pack on the biggest bare walls, spread out rather than bunched in one spot. If it still sounds lively, add more on the facing walls. Tell us the room size and we're happy to help you guess.

Are the panels fire rated?

We're still confirming fire testing with our maker. If your building or inspector needs rated panels, contact us before you order and we'll tell you exactly what we can and can't promise.
